AI Attribution Guide

Last updated: July 1, 2026

Why Attribution Matters

Transparency in AI-assisted research is a growing expectation across the scientific community. Many conferences and journals now require explicit disclosure of AI tool usage. Proper attribution builds trust with reviewers and readers, and ensures compliance with venue policies.

As a user of Apex Research, you are responsible for disclosing AI assistance in your publications according to the requirements of your target venue. This guide provides templates and venue-specific guidance to help you comply.

General Attribution Template

Copy and adapt the following text for your paper's acknowledgments or AI disclosure section:

This paper was prepared with the assistance of Apex Research, an AI-powered research platform. The AI system assisted with [experiment design / data analysis / manuscript drafting / literature review]. All scientific conclusions and claims have been verified by the authors.

Replace the bracketed items with the specific areas where AI assistance was used. Be as specific as possible about which aspects of the work involved AI assistance.

Venue-Specific Guidance

NeurIPS (2026+)

NeurIPS requires authors to disclose the use of AI writing assistants in the paper. Include a statement in the acknowledgments or a dedicated "AI Assistance Disclosure" section. NeurIPS does not allow listing AI systems as authors. Authors bear full responsibility for the correctness of AI-assisted content.

We used Apex Research for [specific tasks]. All results were independently verified by the authors. The AI system is not listed as an author and did not make autonomous scientific decisions.

ICML (2026+)

ICML requires disclosure of AI tool usage in the submission process. Authors must confirm that AI-generated text has been reviewed and edited. Include disclosure in the camera-ready acknowledgments section.

Parts of this manuscript were drafted with AI assistance (Apex Research platform). The authors reviewed and edited all AI-generated content and take full responsibility for the final text.

ICLR (2027)

ICLR requires that AI tool usage be disclosed during submission. Authors should specify which tools were used and for what purpose. AI systems cannot be listed as authors or reviewers.

This work was developed with the assistance of Apex Research, an AI research platform. The platform assisted with [experiment management / code development / manuscript preparation]. All scientific claims and conclusions are the sole responsibility of the human authors.

ACL / EMNLP (2026+)

ACL venues require a "Limitations" section and encourage disclosure of AI assistance. If AI was used for writing, translation, or data processing, it should be acknowledged explicitly.

We acknowledge the use of Apex Research for [experiment automation / data analysis / writing assistance]. The AI system operated under human supervision, and all outputs were verified by the authors.

AAAI (2027)

AAAI requires authors to disclose AI assistance in the submission form and in the paper itself. Authors must certify that they have reviewed all AI-generated content. Note that AAAI has strict formatting requirements — see the Terms of Service regarding venue compliance.

This paper was prepared with AI assistance from Apex Research. The AI platform was used for [specific tasks]. The authors have reviewed and take responsibility for all content in this paper.

Best Practices

  • Be specific. Rather than saying "AI was used," describe exactly which tasks the AI assisted with (e.g., "literature search," "baseline code generation," "LaTeX formatting").
  • Verify everything. Always independently verify AI-generated results, especially numerical claims, citations, and statistical analyses.
  • Check venue policies. Policies evolve rapidly. Always check the latest submission guidelines for your target venue before submitting.
  • Separate contribution from assistance. Make clear which intellectual contributions are yours and which tasks were automated. The core scientific contribution should always be human-driven.
  • Keep records. Apex Research maintains audit logs of AI agent activities. These can be referenced if questions arise about the extent of AI assistance.
